BIOGRAPHY OF  COL NASIRU GARBA ZURMI FSS MSS psc GOM RCHP AMNIM MIAD

Col Nasiru Garba Zurmi was born in Zurmi, Zamfara State, on 31 Dec 74 to the families of Alhaji Garba Bazamfare Nasarawan Zurmi, a notable businessman in Zurmi Local Government, Zamfara State. He hails from Zurmi LGA of Zamfara State. Started primary education at Nasarawan Zurmi Model Primary School from 1980 to 1984 before proceeding to Government Secondary School Kauran Namoda, Zamfara State, from 1985 to 1990 for his secondary education. In pursuit of his career proceeded to the prestigious University of Maiduguri for his BSc and University of Ibadan for My PGD and later Nigerian Defence Academy for his master’s degree, among others. Thereafter, he proceeded to the Nigerian Defence Academy in 2002 as a member of Short Service Course 32 and was commissioned into the Nigerian Army Corps of Artillery as a 2Lt on 21 Dec 02.

Col Nasiru Garba Zurmi has attended several military and civil courses within and outside the country. Some of which are as follows:

a. Military Courses.

(1) Artillery Young Officers Course at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA), Kachia.     

(2) Infantry Young Officers Course at the Nigerian Army School of Infantry (NASI) Jaji.

(3) Regimental Officers Gunnery Course AD at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA), Kachia.

(4) Battery Commanders Course at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA,) Kachia.

(5) Joint Operation Planning Course at Royal Command and Staff College, London. 

(6) Junior Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Jaji.

(7) Senior Staff Course at the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Jaji.

   (8) Regiment Commanders Course at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery (NASA), Kachia.

(9) Commanding Officers’ Workshop at Headquarters 81 Division Lagos.

(10) Proficiency Certificate Course in Peace and Conflict Resolution.

(11) United Nations Security Course in Liberia.

(12) Exercise United Accord at Kofi Anan International Peace Keeping Centre, Accra, Ghana.

 (13) Protection of civilians in conflict (Maiduguri) 2020

b. Among the Civil courses and academic qualifications obtained are:

(1) BSc Hons Geography at the University of Maiduguri in 2007.

(2) Diploma in Community Health at Federal College of Health Technology, Maiduguri in 2020.

 (3).    Diploma in public health at the University of Ibadan 

(4).     Higher diploma in public (maternal health) health at the University of Ibadan

(5) Postgraduate diploma in public health (maternal health)at the University of Ibadan

(6) Master's in International Affairs and Defence Studies in 2019.

3. Col Nasiru Garba Zurmi has Membership with the following Professional Bodies.

a. Associate Member, Nigeria Institute of Management.

b. Member Nigerian Army Resource Centre.

Promotion History started as Second Lieutenant 21st Dec 2002, Lieutenant 17 June 2007, Captain 10th July 2011, Major    19th Sept 2015, Lieutenant Colonel 22nd October 2020 and now promoted to the rank of Colonel on the 7th October 2025.

Col Nasiru Garba Zurmi has held several appointments in the army and worked in many places in the country, leading victories in many operations as a young and vibrant officer.

He is happily married to Hajiya Rabi Nasiru Garba, and the union is blessed with children.
